And for the first viral video ever honored: A Needed Response (YouTube/Samantha Stendal) Samantha Stendal, Aaron Blanton. A Needed Response grew out of two University of Oregon students’ outrage when watching the news coverage of the Steubenville, Ohio rape sentencing that denied the perpetrators’ loss of their promising athletic careers while ignoring the 16-year-old girl they had drugged and sexually assaulted. Samantha Stendal and Aaron Blanton conceived, staged and shot a 26-second video that emphatically rejects the idea rape is ever excusable. Short, sweet and to the point, it was an ingenious PSA targeted to college age viewers and definitely got their attention. They uploaded the video to Upworthy’s Facebook page and within 48-hours the video surpassed 1 million views. It doubled, tripled and continued to grow as more and more peopled shared it, debated it and discussed its take on masculinity and morality. A Needed Response received a Peabody Award for creating an unforgettable, undeniable statement about rape culture and sharing it with the world via social media.

Penny Dreadful is Wunderbar on Showtime

http://www.sho.com/sho/penny-dreadful/home?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=penny+dreadful+showtime&utm_campaign=brandpennydreadful_showtimepennydreadful

I adore Josh Hartnett. Even when he’s in something I don’t like, I still watch it because he’s in it. For example, I didn’t really like The Black Dahlia, but I watched it because he was in it.

He’s currently appearing in Penny Dreadful, a new series on Showtime. But I’d watch that even if Josh Hartnett wasn’t in it, that’s how good it is. It also stars Timothy Dalton, Eva Green and Harry Treadaway; but the cast will be growing as more episodes are shown.

It premiered on Sunday, May 11 at 10pm ET, but you can catch the first episode anytime at http://www.sho.com. You can also see it at http://www.huluplus.com if you have a huluplus.com account.

Once you view the first episode and get introduced to some of the iconic characters in Showtime’s reinvented Victorian London you’ll understand what I mean about wanting to catch the entire series. Showtime recently had a free preview weekend on DirecTV and they had a BTS (behind the scenes) on it. There’s an extremely committed and dedicated, talented cast bringing each episode to the screen. Those are the kind of programs I enjoy watching.

The nice thing about premium series is that if you miss one episode at its premiere showing, you can catch it at other times throughout the week. That helps tremendously if you have over committed your DVR as well.

The link (above) takes you to the Showtime/Penny Dreadful show site which as recaps, previews and BTS features. But be forewarned because I guarantee, you will get as hooked as I well. Not just on John Hartnett, but on the rest of the cast as well.
