TV Marathons – A Big Part of Turkey Day

Every Thanksgiving, the sound of the television has always been in the background. If not a football game, it’s the Macy’s Day Parade, a cooking show or a favorite series or holiday movie. Here’s a list of just a few of the marathons scheduled for this upcoming Thanksgiving weeked.

All times are Eastern. You can always check to see what’s on your favorite channels by Googling their schedule (for example: Cloo Schedule). Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

And for the first viral video ever honored: A Needed Response (YouTube/Samantha Stendal) Samantha Stendal, Aaron Blanton. A Needed Response grew out of two University of Oregon students’ outrage when watching the news coverage of the Steubenville, Ohio rape sentencing that denied the perpetrators’ loss of their promising athletic careers while ignoring the 16-year-old girl they had drugged and sexually assaulted. Samantha Stendal and Aaron Blanton conceived, staged and shot a 26-second video that emphatically rejects the idea rape is ever excusable. Short, sweet and to the point, it was an ingenious PSA targeted to college age viewers and definitely got their attention. They uploaded the video to Upworthy’s Facebook page and within 48-hours the video surpassed 1 million views. It doubled, tripled and continued to grow as more and more peopled shared it, debated it and discussed its take on masculinity and morality. A Needed Response received a Peabody Award for creating an unforgettable, undeniable statement about rape culture and sharing it with the world via social media.

Thanksgiving Day Marathons

Are you ready for Turkey Day? As I was driving home this afternoon one of the radio DJs was giving advice on what potatoes made the best mashed. I received a terse text message from my sister over a week ago saying she wasn’t doing Thanksgiving till “well after 3pm on Friday.”

I think that was in reply to my “did you want me to bring anything for Thanksgiving?” text message. On a scale of 1-10 for families, mine’s a solid 1. But that’s okay, I don’t mind the solitude the Holidays and the days off from work gives me.

Anyway, I digress. I found these marathons by using my program guide on my DirecTV and forwarding ahead with my remote. I DIDN’T JUST read a bunch of press releases from networks weeks ago. So you can depend that these marathons are 85% correct.

If there’s a network I didn’t list, just Google it i.e. “A&E Schedule,” and 9 out of 10 times it will come up with a great listings schedule of what’s playing for the next week or so. It even lets you click on a timezone.

A&E, will be running their standard weekly programming (CT): 8am Criminal Minds; 10am CSI: Miami for two hours; 12pm Criminal Minds for two hours; 2pm The First 48 for three hours; 5pm The Duck Dynasty.

AMC, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory at 8:15am (CT); The Godfather at 10:30am; The Godfather 2 at 2:30pm till 7pm. The Godfather movies repeat the balance of the day. AMC is planning on showing The Walking Dead Season 3 on Sunday starting at 2:30pm (ET).

Animal Planet, 6am (CT) The Crocodile Hunter; 7am Call of the Wild; 8am Polar Bear: Spy on the Ice; 9am Wild Russia; 1pm Frozen Planet; 6pm River Monsters: Unhooked; 8pm Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives

BBCA, Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon starting at 7am (CT)

CLOO, White Collar Marathon starts at 5am (CT)

Discovery, (CT) 8am North America; 11am Alaska: The Last Frontier; 7pm Punkin Chunkin 2013

FX HD, Buffy at 6am (CT); 8am Ellen (30-minute segments) followed by Kung Fu Panda at 11am and then Kung Fu Panda 2 at 1pm and then replays most of the day of those two movies.

History Channel, 6am (CT) Swamp People; 4pm Swampsgiving; 5pm Pawn Stars; 8pm Swampsgiving 2 (the sequel?); 9pm Pawn Stars

ID, 6am (CT) Deadly Women; 12pm Deadly Devotion; 4pm Bloody Marys; 5pm Deadly Sins

TLC, 6am (CT) The Lottery Changed My Life; 1pm a Marathon of Undercover Boss.

TNT, Castle Marathon starting at 9am (CT) followed by Hawaii Five-O at 10pm

‘The Voice’: New Coaches For Season 4

‘The Voice’: New Coaches And Season 4 Talent Preview (VIDEO).

NBC’s The Voice premieres this Monday with a two-hour episode followed by a one-hour episode on Tuesday, March 26.

On April 30 and May 7 the show will again feature a two-hour episode. Struggling in ratings, NBC is hoping The Voice will provide a boost.

The two new coaches, I’m predicting, may be just what NBC need to increase ratings. Usher is filling in for CeeLo Green and Shakira is filling in for Christina Aguilera. Both CeeLo and Christina are taking breaks from The Voice to focus on their own projects.

Personally, it will be nice to have two new coaches added to the mix. I was always one to believe that a change in cast wasn’t all bad.

Click the link to read what Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have to say about the new coaches plus you can preview the talent AND see what other networks have renewed, cancelled or are “on the bubble” about.

Stay in On Saturday & Watch Ripper Street (it’s flawless)

‘Ripper Street,’ With Matthew Macfadyen, on BBC America – NYTimes.com.

You definitely won’t be sorry.

The premiere episode was absolutely delicious. I’m still trying to decide who I like better, Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (center, Matthew Macfadyen), Drake (Jerome Flynn, on the left) or Capt. Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg, on the right) who is definitely my kind of man since he’s into death and forensics.

I mean if you doubt the NYTimes, don’t bother clicking on the link above and reading their ringing endorsement of the show, this is my second write-up of it.

I will suggest that you set your DVR, because it does take a while for your ears to get use to that fine English language they spoke over there in them days (gosh what horrible grammar).

After viewing both episodes, I’ll be DVRing them just so I can watch them more than once. I promise you, they are just… that… good. It’s like watching a little movie onto itself. They are FLAWLESS.

Don’t let the title give you the slightest doubt. The closest this show is to Ripper anything is that it’s being done in the same time frame and in the same neighborhood. Other than that, you’ll forget all about Jack-The-Ripper after the first episode.

Besides, they’ll be plenty of other drama to be engrossed in during the coming episodes and  you’ll be oh, so engrossed.
