Feb. 1 Super Bowl 49 – or TV Marathons

While NBC shows the Super Bowl 49 (starting at 12pm CST), other stations will be running regular scheduled programming and still others will be running marathons. Here’s a list of marathons (and other special programming) to distract you while your living room is occupied by jocks and other folk watching Super Bowl 2015.

If you get the channel POP, Boomer Esiason and Katharine McPhee will host a countdown of the best ‘old school’ and ‘new school’ Super Bowl commercials of 2015 at 10:30am CST. It’s a great way to see the “best part of the Super Bowl” without having to actually watch the game.

NYE Marathons – But Walking Dead Marathon Starts Dec. 30

Planning a night out this New Year’s Eve? With gas prices at an all time low pretty much all over the county, experts say many will travel by car up to 50 miles for a night out this New Year’s Eve. If you’re planning a party and are wondering what might be on TV to keep your kids occupied, or perhaps be the center of entertainment, here’s a list of TV marathons on New Year’s Eve (December 31).

If you need a theme for your party, how about a Zombie Theme. AMC is starting a Walking Dead Marathon tomorrow, yes, I said tomorrow, Tuesday, December 30 at 8am, beginning with the first episode and continuing through Friday, January 2, 12am. I hope your guests don’t expect to stay that long.

All times listed are Central, and networks are listed alphabetically. If you want to confirm anything listed here, or want to know what’s coming on January 1 or any other days, you can click on the link above. You’ll probably have to put in your satellite/cable provider and your timezone, and may have to register (I’m not sure about that part). It’s quite an invaluable resource.

Of course if you’re still in Christmas mode, and many of us still are, and you’re looking for good quality Christmas programming, then you should head over to the Hallmark Channel. In addition to showing original Holiday movies on New Year’s Eve, they’ll be showing Episode 506 and 505 of Home & Family starting at 9am (CST) (That’s 4 hours worth of good advice at a time of year when you might need it). Talking about something to celebrate, they just did … celebrate … their 500 episode of Home & Family. Congrats Hallmark Channel … that’s quite a milestone.

Double Divas on Lifetime is a Hoot & a Half

On Thursday this week, I was watching the newest installment of the Storage Wars franchise off DVR (Storage Wars: New York) and a commercial came on for a new Lifetime reality show. Normally I wouldn’t give a second look to what comes on Lifetime, but this really caught my interest. On the screen was an attractive young woman saying she could tell someone’s bra size just by looking at them.

So I set my DVR that night to catch “Double Divas” and on Friday when I got home from my first full week of work in a month, I sat back with a huge cup of hot cocoa and watched three half-hour episodes of Double Divas. By the time I went to bed my sides hurt from laughing, and that hasn’t happened … since … forever.

The above link has a short Q&A with the two owners of Livi Rae Lingerie in Atlanta and the stars of this reality show.

In the Q&A, Cynthia mentions the Oprah segment about bra fit and letting her viewers know bras came bigger than a “D” caused their shop to be slammed with people, hour long waits and people driving from other states to be fitted. (Now you know how they ended up with a reality show.)

From the photo, you can see that they have the selection and if you watch just one 30-minute episode, you’ll know they have the expertise.

In the first of the three episodes I watched, Cynthia Richards took up the challenge of making a bra for the woman with the largest breasts in the world, Miss Annie Hawkins-Turner (aka Norma Stitz). For the first eight minutes I thought this was going to turn into every other sensationalized “reality” show, but I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that Cynthia Richards is a talented designer and experienced seamstress.

Set your DVR and like me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
